Court filing fees
Many Circuit Courts in Illinois will charge a filing fee to petition for a Confidential Intermediary. These fees vary from county to county. Many Courts in heavily-populated counties have eliminated the filing fee for CI service, which can be a significant savings for people seeking their birth relative.
Other notes about fees
Fees are subject to change
Service may be available at no fee in cases of demonstrated need. Contact CISI for more information.
In rare instances, the CI is unable to locate the sought-after relative using all of the standard resources. While it would be unusual, the CI may have identified an additional resource that could significantly increase the probability of search success. If the cost to access that resource is much greater than what is considered usual in this program, CISI is not expected to bear that expense. CISI will explain the situation to the Petitioner including both the risks and possible benefits of the additional cost resource. The Petitioner may choose either to pay the cost of the additional service or to stop the search at that point. Note: this additional cost would NOT be compensation for more hours of work by the CI, but rather for an unusual fee or cost associated with access to information.
