If you are an adopted person looking for your birth family or a birth parent trying to find your birth child who was adopted, the CI program may be able to help.
Your Confidential Intermediary will have access to information from court files, adoption agency files and birth/death/divorce and marriage records that can make all the difference in a search.
After getting all available records, your CI will complete a Search Assessment. It will tell you if your birth parents are known to be deceased, if information about siblings and other birth relatives was received, and give you our assessment of how difficult the search for each of them would be. If you are a birth parent or other relative, your CI will tell you whether she obtained enough information to attempt to locate the person you are looking for.
CISI has once again received a limited amount of funding from DCFS to reduce the cost of service. At this time, there is no fee to begin CI service and have your CI complete a Search Assessment. Then you can decide whether or not this program is a good choice for you. You will pay a service fee ONLY if you decide to move forward with a search.
Confidential Intermediary service is a program of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, delivered by Midwest Adoption Center. |
